Former President Donald Trump praised the Indiana House of Representatives for approving a new congressional redistricting map and urged the Indiana Senate to pass it quickly. The proposed map, introduced by Republicans earlier in the week, passed the Indiana House with a 57ā41 vote and is designed to strengthen the Republican Partyās chances in future elections.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the updated map as āmuch fairerā and āimproved.ā He also emphasized that he had won Indiana multiple times in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections, including during the Republican primaries. According to Trump, the new map would allow voters in Indiana to elect two additional Republican members of Congress during the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump called on the Indiana Senate to approve the map without changes and send it as soon as possible to Governor Mike Braun for final approval. He argued that passing the proposal would represent a major victory for Republicans in Indiana, often called the āHoosier State,ā as well as for the party nationwide.
The former president also publicly named nine Republican state senators whom he said needed encouragement from voters to support the measure. These senators include Blake Doriot, Brett Clark, Brian Buchanan, Dan Dernulc, Ed Charbonneau, Greg Goode, Jim Buck, Rick Niemeyer, and Ryan Mishler. Trump noted that some of these lawmakers are facing reelection in 2026 or 2028, suggesting that public pressure could influence their decision.
Overall, the proposed congressional map favors Republicans in all nine of Indianaās districts. The effort reflects the partyās broader strategy to protect its narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
