U.S. Amassing ‘Armada’ Near Iran, New Locations Offer Clues

America’s ‘Armada’: Massive Military Buildup Near Iran Triggers Alarm

The United States has significantly escalated its military presence near Iran in recent weeks, with President Donald Trump reportedly considering potential military action, dubbing the extensive deployment an “armada.” While official objectives remain undisclosed, the buildup features substantial naval and air power. Initially, the force included the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by three guided-missile warships equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, previously utilized in coordinated strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. These vessels also carry advanced air defense systems to safeguard the carrier strike group, with onboard aircraft like F-35 stealth fighters and F/A-18 attack aircraft positioned within striking distance of various targets inside Iran.

Further intensifying its regional footprint, the U.S. recently dispatched a second aircraft carrier strike group, centered around the Navy’s most advanced carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, alongside three destroyers. This deployment augments the naval presence, raising the total number of destroyers in the broader region to 13. Concurrently, air assets have been concentrated at strategic hubs, notably the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in eastern Jordan, which now hosts over 60 attack aircraft, including new arrivals of electronic warfare jets designed to jam radar. Satellite imagery also confirms the presence of at least five MQ-9 Reaper drones at the base.

The air reinforcement extends to Israel, with 11 F-22 stealth fighter jets deployed to the Ovda air base in its southern region. Moreover, flight tracking and satellite data indicate a broader movement of diverse aircraft, including refueling and reconnaissance planes equipped with advanced sensors, into the region. To bolster support for forces in the Middle East, dozens of tanker and cargo aircraft have been repositioned from the United States to bases across Europe. The Pentagon has also enhanced ground defenses, dispatching additional Patriot and THAAD air defense systems to protect the estimated 30,000 to 40,000 U.S. troops from potential retaliatory strikes by Iranian missiles.

Strategic long-range bombers stationed in the United States, capable of striking targets in Iran, are currently on a heightened alert status, a directive issued by President Trump in January amidst a crackdown on protests in Iran. Furthermore, special operations, surveillance, and refueling aircraft have been deployed to the Diego Garcia military base in the Indian Ocean, a crucial forward deployment airfield for B-2 stealth bombers. This significant military escalation has drawn serious concerns from Capitol Hill. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has publicly demanded clarification from the administration regarding its objectives, following a classified briefing that left many lawmakers uneasy about the developing situation.
